Early Creative Journey
Alicia Shonta began her creative journey as a spoken word artist, poet, entrepreneur, stylist, photographer, and mother whose early work reflected a deep passion for storytelling, expression, and artistic identity.
Her earliest recorded projects included a full-length music and spoken word body of work completed in 2013, followed by independent single releases and collaborative creative projects with emerging artists. During this time, she also performed at open mic events, private showcases, and community gatherings, building a foundation rooted in live expression and audience connection.
Writing has been a lifelong practice for Alicia Shonta, beginning in childhood and evolving into hundreds of written works across poetry, spoken word, and lyrical composition. Her creative influences span multiple genres, including soul, R&B, hip hop, and spoken word traditions, which helped shape her early artistic voice.
As an independent creative, she focused on collaboration, artistic exploration, and developing her identity as an emerging voice in music and poetry while maintaining full creative control over her work.
This early season of her career laid the groundwork for her evolution into a broader body of work that now includes authorship, education, leadership development, fashion entrepreneurship, and the creation of Alicia Shonta TALKS and ASFH.
